Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how CanadianMaplePlay (“we”) uses cookies and similar storage technologies on canadianmapleplay.com. It should be read together with our Terms of Use. This policy is written in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation in Canada.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites that you visit. They are used to make sites work efficiently and to provide information to site owners. Modern browsers also support localStorage, a more persistent form of in-browser storage. For the purposes of this policy, we treat both technologies under the umbrella term “cookies”.
2. Types of cookies we use
Strictly necessary cookies
These are essential for the operation of the site. They include the age verification flag and the cookie banner choice, both stored in your browser’s localStorage. Without them, the site would request your confirmations on every page reload.
Functional cookies
These remember your in-game progress (virtual coin balance, wins, losses, and best score) so that you can return to the same balance later. They are stored only on your device and never transmitted to our servers.
Preference cookies
These remember the choice you make on the cookie banner (accept or decline). This way, we do not display the banner on every visit.
Analytics
At the time of this writing, CanadianMaplePlay does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. If that ever changes, this Cookie Policy will be updated and you will be asked for fresh consent.
3. How you can control cookies
You can manage cookies and local storage in several ways:
- In the cookie banner on your first visit you may choose “Accept All” or “Decline”.
- In your browser settings you may delete existing cookies and localStorage entries, or block them entirely.
- Deleting locally stored data will reset your virtual coin balance and game statistics.
4. Third-party content
Our site loads a small number of third-party resources that may set their own cookies independently:
- Google Fonts — to deliver the typefaces used on the site.
- jsDelivr / unpkg — to deliver CSS framework and the Lucide icon library.
We do not control these third parties. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for more details.
5. Retention
Functional and preference entries stored in localStorage remain on your device until you (a) clear browser data, (b) decline cookies on a future visit, or (c) we explicitly reset them as part of a site update. We do not impose a fixed expiry date.
6. Your rights
Under PIPEDA and applicable provincial law (such as Québec’s Law 25), you have the right to:
- Be informed of the data we may handle;
- Withdraw your consent at any time;
- Request access, correction or deletion of personal data we may hold;
- Submit a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
For any privacy-related request, contact us at [email protected].
7. Updates
We may revise this Cookie Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated through the cookie banner when reasonably possible.
