Turkey Gravy Recalled for Soy Contamination

A statement was released by Seneca Foods Corporation regarding the recall of Hy-Vee turkey gravy due to an error in packaging. The problem is that the label doesn’t say it contains soy, and it actually has beef gravy instead. Some people may experience severe symptoms if they are allergic to soy.

Hy-Vee Turkey Gravy is the sole product in this line that is recalled. Therefore, the turkey you were expecting might not be in this gravy you purchased from that store. So yet, no instances of illness have been associated with it.

Hy-Vee mentioned, “It’s just less than 1% of this gravy sold in our stores.”

This mix-up is because the labels don’t match the gravy inside. The beef gravy with soy isn’t mentioned on the turkey gravy label. So, if you’re allergic to soy, don’t eat this misplaced beef gravy pretending to be turkey gravy.

You should read the label on your gravy container. It could be the mixed-up one if it’s the 12 oz Hy-Vee Turkey Gravy with the UPC 75450-03608 and the lot code A3CG162M A3CG192M.

Check out the FDA’s website for photos of the label and lot code. You can be using the wrong one if your gravy turns out a dark brownish color instead of the typical sandy tan.

The turkey gravy from Hy-Vee does not contain a soy allergen notice because of a mistake in the labeling. People who are extremely allergic to soy may have a life-threatening response if they eat the gravy. For that reason, the gravy is not something that those with soy allergies or sensitivities should eat.

If you happen to have the gravy on hand and don’t have any soy allergies or sensitivities, there’s really nothing wrong with it other than the fact that it’s beef gravy instead of turkey. There won’t be any negative side effects from taking it, but if you were hoping to purchase the authentic product, you can get your money back.

No one has reported being ill after eating this gravy, according to Seneca Foods. This recall does not apply to other jarred gravies from Hy-Vee. Seneca Foods Consumer Affairs can be reached at 1-800-872-1110 if you have any concerns.
