South Dakota has become the country’s second abortion-free state.
The news comes after the state closed its final abortion facility earlier this week. It was a Sioux Falls-based Planned Parenthood clinic.
Gov. Kristi Noem (R) shared the news on social media on Tuesday.
“Abortions have stopped in South Dakota. We have prayed for this day, and now it is here. Now, we must redouble our focus on taking care of mothers in crisis. Help is available for you. Adoption is an option. You are never alone.”
Oklahoma is the only state that does not allow abortions. It attained this status when Governor Kevin Stitt (R) recently signed a measure into law prohibiting almost all abortions from the time of conception.
Missouri is following in the footsteps of South Dakota and Oklahoma in shutting all of its abortion facilities. In fact, it is almost right there with them: the state’s only remaining abortion facility is no longer accepting appointments.
According to reports, Wisconsin abortion facilities are not scheduling abortions till after the Supreme Court’s June session ends.
Now that the US Supreme Court has a conservative majority, Republican states are pushing to prohibit abortions. The aim is that this conservative majority would overturn Roe v. Wade, returning the contentious abortion issue to the states, where it belongs, according to many.
According to a newly leaked Supreme Court draft judgment, the justices are moving in this manner. The draft ruling is from a case in which the justices are debating whether Mississippi’s 15-week abortion restriction is permissible. The justices overturn Roe in that draft.
This draft, on the other hand, has yet to become a reality, and it is unknown whether it ever will.
Pro-life activists think that the moment has come to take a stance, and we are seeing this in states like Oklahoma, South Dakota, and others.
