Semi Truck Carrying US Mail Flies Off Bridge Into Icy River

The instant a tractor-trailer carrying US mail crashed off a bridge and into a river near Boston, the driver miraculously escaped and waited to be rescued atop the partially submerged vehicle.

On Saturday, the Massachusetts State Police Association released footage from a surveillance camera that showed the vehicle crashing through the guardrail and into the cold Charles River.

After escaping from the cab, the driver, who was unable to swim, waited for rescuers on top of the truck.

The accident’s cause is still being investigated. The driver was transferred to Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Firefighters arrived swiftly because they were already in the area clearing hydrants after Friday’s snowfall, according to Weston Deputy Fire Chief Justin Woodside.

They were able to pull off a successful rescue, wherein two of their members walked in with suits and caught him. It took around 4 minutes from the time they arrived.

According to state police, the lucky driver was transferred to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he was checked and confirmed to be unharmed in the terrible accident.

The truck was seen flying into the freezing Charles River after crashing through the railing.

The driver waited for rescuers on top of the truck.

Because firefighters were already in the vicinity, they were able to respond swiftly.

His truck, which was hauling mail for the US Postal Service in Brockton, jumped at the I-95/Massachusetts Turnpike interchange.
