Rep. Good Urges Boycott of GOP Club Over Mandates

Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., has called for a boycott of a private Republican club as a way to protest the indoor vaccine mandate ordered by Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser, The Hill is reporting.

Good told other lawmakers during a private GOP conference they should refuse to do business with the Capitol Hill Club, which was founded in 1951 and is located next to the Republican National Committee offices.

His comments came as the club posted on its website: “As of Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, Mayor Bowser reimposed the mask requirement for indoor public spaces will take effect on Tuesday and remain in place through January 31. Complimentary masks are available from the Concierge Desk.”

The statement continued: “As of Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022per Mayor’s Order 2021-148, the District of Columbia will adopt a city wide vaccination entry requirement that requires COVID-19 vaccination to enter indoor facilities within the city. Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is required upon entry.”

Meanwhile, two of the club’s board members — Reps. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., and Jeff Duncan, R-S.C. — argued that the club was simply following the city’s health regulations and should not be penalized, according to The Hill.

“For some, there’s a mentality of ‘burn the house down,’” said one GOP lawmaker who heard the debate in the meeting Tuesday. “The majority of the conference was in the camp of, You need to protect the club.”
