Washington, D.C. National Guard forces will be deployed in response to the People’s Convoy, a truck driver protest.
According to the newspaper, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin authorized the plan on Tuesday, with 700 troops anticipated to assist with traffic directing.
The National Guard is sending 400 soldiers from Washington, D.C. The remaining 300 people will be recruited from other states.
The Pentagon, on the other hand, has stated that they will be unarmed and serving in a support role.
Meanwhile, ahead of President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on March 1, it has been claimed that fencing has been erected around Capitol Hill.
“The USCP is closely coordinating with local, state and federal enforcement agencies, including DC’s Metropolitan Police Department, the United States Park Police, the United States Secret Service and other allies agencies to include the DC National Guard,” it continued.
The convoy is being organized to protest COVID limitations, and it follows in the footsteps of the Freedom Convoy in Canada.
As a result of the protests, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau employed never-before-used emergency legislation. It permitted banks to unilaterally freeze accounts belonging to demonstrators and people accused of supporting them, among other things.
