Four individuals lost their lives, and two police officers sustained injuries during a large-scale stabbing incident at a residence in New York City. At approximately 5:00 a.m., a juvenile contacted emergency services, informing them that her cousin, Courtney Gordon, aged 38, was brandishing a knife and assaulting family members. The family has revealed that Gordon was grappling with mental health challenges.
Gordon ignited furniture within the residence before emerging, causing a delay for law enforcement to enter. Carrying bags, he confronted officers in the driveway. According to the report, he inflicted injuries on one officer’s head and another’s neck with a slashing motion before a third officer fatally shot him.
Tragically, the casualties encompassed an 11-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy, a 44-year-old woman, and a 30-year-old man. Regrettably, the 11-year-old girl couldn’t be rescued and was declared deceased at Long Island Medical Center-Cohen.
Additionally, a 61-year-old woman suffered multiple stab wounds and was conveyed to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in a critical condition. The two police officers who were slashed were transported to Jamaica Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. They were released on Sunday night.
According to police reports, the officers were attacked with a standard kitchen steak knife. Authorities are currently working to verify if this indeed was the weapon utilized in the incident. Chief Maddrey commended the officers who responded, emphasizing that the individual could have effortlessly passed by them with his bags.
Instead, the officers intercepted the man, inquiring about a few details and attempting to gather information before approaching. Regrettably, the assailant assaulted the officers, launching a direct attack. Authorities are currently in the process of determining Gordon’s motive for the attack and are conducting a comprehensive investigation.
