After making violent threats against FBI agents online, authorities detained a man from Pennsylvania.
Late on Friday night in Mercer, Pennsylvania, the Justice Department released a statement announcing that they had arrested Adam Bies, 46. Bies is currently accused of trying to persuade, obstruct, or retaliate against federal law enforcement officials.
In the days following the FBI raid at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach, Florida, FBI officials claimed Bies reportedly made several violent threats against law enforcement on the social networking website Gab, according to court records.
The Justice Department estimates that Bies could spend a maximum of 10 years in prison if he is found guilty.
Following the FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago, the arrest comes after Attorney General Merrick Garland stated last week that law enforcement officers were keeping an eye on violent threats made against senior DOJ employees. A combined intelligence alert issued by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security reportedly warned of an increase in threats against federal law enforcement employees.
The former president Donald J. Trump even stated during an interview, “People are so angry at what is taking place. There has never been a time like this where law enforcement has been used to break into the house of a former president of the United States, and there is tremendous anger in the country — at a level that has never been seen before, other than during very perilous times.”
