Under the leadership of Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Chicago’s crime rate has soared, making it one of the most dangerous cities in the US.
Lightfoot, however, assigns the issue on everyone and everything else instead of reconsidering her lax approaches to criminal justice.
To reduce Chicago’s crime issue, Lightfoot recommended earlier this week that street sellers cease accepting payment.
Lightfoot gave purported remedies to the problem at a mayoral discussion with eight other competitors.
“I heard a lot of rhetoric here, a lot of soundbites, but not a lot of concrete solutions on how we get the job done and make our residents and our workers safe. We’re doing it every single day,” according to Lightfoot, but, the city’s crime rate has not yet decreased.
The mayor continued to insist, “We have been in Little Village working with those street vendors, understanding what the nature of the crime is, making sure that we’re doing things in concert with them to help them, to make sure that their money is secure. Not use money, if at all possible, using other forms of transactions to carry themselves.”
The first three inquiries Lightfoot received were on crime, and she asserted that the city’s homicide and gunshot rates have decreased. Community activist Ja’Mal Green, one of her opponents, charged her with lying about the figures.
The Chicago Police Department reports that overall crime in the city increased by 65 percent from the same period the previous year, while sexual assault increased by 16 percent, robberies increased by 37 percent, and auto theft increased by 175 percent.
