Kari Lake, a former Republican candidate for governor of Arizona, has suggested that state may be the next to press charges against Trump after the 2020 election. This Monday, the state’s attorney general announced that he would be opening an investigation into activities connected to the ex-president.
After barely losing the state of Arizona in 2020, Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes stated last week that her office is investigating those accused of seeking to represent the former president in the Electoral College.
“We are doing a thorough and professional investigation,” the attorney general said. “We will do it on our timetable, as justice demands.”
Mayes’ comments came after Lake stated that Arizona officials would indict Trump “ASAP.”
Trump is currently being prosecuted by both the federal government and the Democratic district attorney for Fulton County, Georgia.
Katie Hobbs (D), the new governor of Arizona after defeating Republican candidate Jeff Lake last year, has said she wants “accountability” for what happened after the 2016 election.

Hobbs said that she has “been an advocate for holding folks involved in trying to overturn the will of the voters in the 2020 election accountable, and this is part of that process.”
The governor also said that the investigation into Trump’s alleged actions “is an important step forward that I think should move forward and play out in the legal process.”
As a result of her remarks, the governor’s spokesman claimed that she “misheard the question.”
Lake accused Hobbs of being a “puppet” of President Joe Biden who was “installed into office.” Lake further said that the governor’s “strings are pulled by the Swamp.”
The former candidate also argued that Hobbs ran a “sham election” in 2022 and was “using her illegitimate office to order her illegitimate AG to INDICT @realDonaldTrump & Grassroots Arizonans. If the fake news is wondering, THIS is what a threat to democracy looks like.”
Lake further made connections between the amount of charges filed against the former president and the problems had by Joe and Hunter Biden “and their shady business dealings.”
