According to the New York Fire Department, a fire broke out on Thursday morning at the main Tiffany store located in Manhattan. The fire department received a notification about a transformer fire at 9:38 a.m., and fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries. Fire officials called in Con Edison, a utility company in New York, to assist at the scene. The renowned store, which gained popularity through its appearance in the 1961 Audrey Hepburn movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” is situated adjacent to Trump Tower.
According to a statement from a Tiffany & Co. representative, an electrical fire originated in the basement.
“This morning prior to store opening hours, an electrical fire broke out in the basement on the periphery of the Tiffany Landmark on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The fire has since been put out and we are working with the New York Fire Department to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our employees and clients. The store is expected to open later today following inspection by the Fire Marshall.”

Around 11:30 a.m., live video footage from the store displayed firefighters directing a hose towards the building, while visible smoke damage could be observed on the store’s exterior. The fire department confirmed that the fire was extinguished by around noon. Alfonso Quiroz, a spokesperson for Con Edison, stated in the afternoon that there were no reported power outages caused by the fire.
Con Edison teams were actively working on repairing and maintaining the underground electrical equipment affected by the incident. The jewelry store, situated at the intersection of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, had recently reopened in April after nearly three years of renovations. The luxurious establishment emphasized these renovations as their inaugural comprehensive overhaul.
