Now, Biden’s DHS Secretary Mayorkas has identified Afghan citizens as being eligible for Temporary Protected Status.
TPS is a quasi-amnesty for foreign people established under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1990 (INA) that prevents deportation of those fleeing famine, conflict, or natural catastrophes in their home countries.
TPS has deviously turned into a de facto amnesty scheme since the Clinton administration, with every president since Clinton renewing the program for a range of countries.
TPS has allowed over 400,000 foreign nationals to live in the United States as of 2021.
Thousands of unvetted Afghani nationals boarded US transport planes during the disastrous pullout from Afghanistan, gaining a free ticket to the United States. After arriving in the United States, they were sent to military bases, where they were subjected to reports of child rape and other crimes.
Instead of devoting additional resources to vetting them, President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has granted nearly 75,000 Afghans in the United States temporary quasi-amnesty status, including those who were fast-tracked into the country despite screening inadequacies over the last seven months.
Since mid-August 2021, Biden has resettled more than 85,000 Afghans in 46 American towns. The Department of Defense’s Inspector General found last month that the resettlement failed to adequately assess Afghans against counter-terrorism databases.
According to the study, 50 Afghans already in the United States have been labeled for severe security concerns as of November 2021.
The majority of the unvetted Afghans who were marked for probable terrorism ties have subsequently vanished in the United States. In one case, only three of the 31 Afghans who had been identified for security concerns months before were found.
Considering the screening shortcomings, Biden plans to keep bringing Afghans to the United States at least through August. Currently, 100,000 Afghans are attempting to enter the United States but remain in Afghanistan.
