On Monday, February 26, a 26-year-old citizen of Guatemala who entered the country illegally was taken into custody in Utah on charges of raping an 11-year-old child. When the victim’s mother went back to her apartment on Sunday night, just after 11 p.m., she noticed an adult guy leave, according to Utah police. They looked at one other, but the man moved rapidly away, leaving them without a word.
When the woman’s 11-year-old daughter arrived home by herself, she discovered her daughter in the hallway, fully nude. Upon asking her mother what transpired, the little girl said that she had provided her address to a man she had been corresponding with online, and he had visited their house and engaged in sexual activity with her.
Through the girl’s Instagram discussions, the culprit was swiftly recognized as Jonathan Estuardo Ruano Garcia, and police were able to locate him at his house. The defendant acknowledged having graphic chats with the girl and even sent her images of his genitalia when questioned by the police.
He stated that he thought the youngster was 13 or 14 years old, which is still far younger than Utah’s 18-year-old consent requirement. The youngster and the suspect allegedly met during a soccer match, and he then began communicating with her on social media.
Police found a fake social security card in Ruano Garcia’s wallet when he was taken into custody on counts of raping a child and luring a juvenile, which enabled them to charge him with a third crime of forgery. The suspect acknowledged that when he entered the country illegally, he paid for the fictitious social security card.
Without posting bond, Ruano Garcia is being detained at the Utah County Jail. Ruano Garcia is also detained on an ICE hold, since the local sheriff’s office notifies Immigration and Customs Enforcement anytime an undocumented immigrant is apprehended.
