According to a new ABC News-Ipsos poll, more than three-quarters of Americans (76%) want President Joe Biden to examine all prospective choices to replace departed Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.
The survey follows Biden’s announcement that he will name his contender before the end of February, and that the nominee will be a Black woman. All nominations should be considered, regardless of race or gender, according to 54 percent of Democrats. Only 23% of those polled said Biden should limit his choice of nominees.

The poll, which included 510 adults from around the country, also revealed that 43% feel the Supreme Court is biased and that justices rule based on their partisan political views.
Other findings were unpleasant to the president, who had low approval ratings on a variety of problems, including rising crime and gun violence, with 69 percent disapproving. Only 1% of those surveyed said the economy was in good shape.
Biden’s Supreme Court announcement fulfills a promise he made during the 2020 presidential campaign. When his 2020 Democratic primary campaign in South Carolina was faltering, Biden reportedly told Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., that in exchange for the House majority whip’s endorsement, he would publicly vow to select a Black woman to the Supreme Court.
